Fashion is a prevailing style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories and makeup, among others.
Stylists observe that fashion is a way of life that keeps evolving and revolving and that turban wearing among ladies seems to be in vogue currently.
According to them, this head wrap — turban — promotes African culture as many ladies use it instead of the usual head ties for traditional occasions and formal and informal events.
They note it is an enduring fashionable wear that is universally utilised and acceptable across ethnic groups, irrespective of the wearers’ faith.
The headgear is made in various fabrics such as satin, cotton, velvet, silk and lycra (stretchy fabric); and it can come with different decorations.
The popular choice of the headgear for many occasions has made people to wonder what makes it trendy and sustainable fashion outfit.
Mrs Lizzy Okoji, a civil servant, says she is in love with turban because it is easier to tie and gives the desired shape, emphasising that she preferred any turban in velvet fabric.
“I love turban, it’s easier to pull through, it gives you the desired shape easily unlike the normal gele or veil, especially the velvet fabric because it gives you a glamorous and a psychedelic look after tying it,’’ she said.
Okoji expressed her love for the head wrap, saying that it is simple and she had them in different colours to enable her to match her outfit anytime she dresses up for an occasion.
Similarly, Miss Jessica Kauna, a resident of Abuja, said wearing turban gave her an elegant look to complement her dressing.
According to her, turban wearing boosts her confidence and covers up her rough look anytime her hair is untidy.
Sharing similar sentiments, Mrs Mary Mark, a resident of Abuja, described turban a good dress during hot weather, stating that due to the hot season she hardly made her hair but would cover up with a turban.
“I just make a moderate hairstyle and if I am going out, I pick one and wear it; it makes me look classy and gives my dressing a perfect finish."
“It also makes me appear neat and it’s always handy for an emergency dress-up. It should be a must have for all ladies,’’ she observed.
Mark encouraged all ladies to ensure they had at least one of the head wrap in their wardrobe, saying that it had been an enduring fashionable dress for ladies.
In the same vein, Mrs Elizabeth Obande, a resident of Abuja, said that turban wearing was fashionable and always ready for wearing.
“It is easily used to cover your hair when it is rough or unkempt and turban will match all kinds of attire, either English, traditional or casual."
“It serves like a wig but the head wrap is more fitting and gives an African look and touch to dressing,’’ she said.
Mr Emmanuel Ogbole, an engineer in Abuja, supported the views of some ladies on turban wearing, noting that it gave them attractive and decent.
He said he bought some turbans for his wife because he admired other ladies when they put them on.
He also encouraged ladies to acquire a pair or two of turban to improve their appearance and give their dressing a finishing in African way.
Similarly, Mr Emeka Chukwuma, a turban seller in Wuse Market, Abuja, said the patronage was high.
“I sell cloths and other ladies’ wears but since turban begins to be in vogue, I decided to venture into it and I have not regretted it for one day."
“Ladies come to my shop on a daily basis demanding for turban in different colours, fabrics and styles, no matter the prices, they come to buy them."
“The prices range from N1, 000 to N15, 000, depending on the accessory used in presenting them."
Irrespective of different in types and prices, most ladies insist that turban wearing makes ladies appear gorgeous and attractive.
