There is certainly something like too much rip on a denim!
Apart from getting funny glances, feeling super awkward there are times one can tell when denim distressed styles come too much and too strong. Denim/jeans in present day come in fun styles, washes, designs, with embellishment and more, making it a wardrobe must have.
They are undoubtedly one of the most (if not THE MOST) versatile piece of clothing anyone could own and they come in exciting styles/designs, washes and in recent times at different degrees of 'distressed'.
Denims come in different styles featuring bold distressing and shredding that can get over the top (except where acting out a crazy scene and at a themed gathering with daring styles, there are some styles that are downright outrageous).
If you love your distressed style but not sure where to draw the line, then these guides are perfect:
1. You feel super awkward everytime you wear it.
When you feel out of place when you wear a particularly over the top distressed/ripped denim then it's probably because it's too much! (If you feel all eyes are plugged on you because intuitively you feel it yourself then it's probably a lot! even you can tell it is.)
2. People gawk, murmur when you walk past
You feel people's glances as well as more turning over their shoulders to give you a weird look (mostly disapproving) while muttering under the breath (not that you shouldn't own your style but when it's too much, you'd know from the glances).
3. You find it difficult to pair it with your favourite tops
When you have an overly distressed denim, it gets ripped so much that your favourite top won't even go on it as it should! It will feel out of place.
4. You show way too much skin even when sitting
When it's too distressed/ripped/shredded even when sitting down (not to talk of trying other activities), way too much skin is left on display! It's uncomfortable to see another person's privates out in full glare.
5. You tear into every shred almost every second
When denims are too distressed, they shred even more with each movement. When every part of the body gets caught in the shreds/rip and snaps with each movement, yes there's way too much going on.
